Description: Interested in STEM, but haven’t found the right program that highlights the math? In this session, discover how to access and leverage Texas Instruments’ STEM solutions to reach your goals, while learning with and from others doing the same work. Learn how to program a math-oriented EV, and experience how these concepts scale up to a broader variety of engaging STEM activities, steeped in math, science and computer science concepts. These ready-to-implement resources will help kids realize the connection between what they are learning and how that intersects with STEM careers. Free resources using familiar technology will help you AND your students find where learning and fun collide!

Counting and Reasoning Through a Pandemic
Presenter: David Woodward, Forefront Education
Session 2, Room C, Target Grades K-5
Description: Reasoning and number sense are more important than every in our increasingly technological world. The Universal Screeners for Mathematics (USNS), formerly known as the BVSD Elementary Math Screeners, is a project that spans more than a decade. Data from those assessments provide a view of number sense over time. What aspects of number sense appear to have been impacted by the pandemic? How were this year's results compared to last? This session will reflect on questions from the USNS assessments, a K-6 open-source assessment project that combines interviews with paper and pencil tasks. In particular we will focus on tasks that reveal student reasoning. Using video, we will observe and discuss how we understand number sense, and what teachers can do to support its development for all students. Leave with an understanding of the USNS project, full access to documents, an understanding of the impacts we can see from the pandemic, and ideas for how we can support number sense development going forward.

Re-Imagine the Way Forward

Description: Recent challenges have increased the disparities in education around equity and access, and have raised concerns about students' social and emotional well-being. Educational leaders today are tasked with identifying equitable interventions and instructional programs while creating safe environments and delivering effective professional learning. Join us for an opportunity to re-imagine the way forward for all students as they work toward learning recovery, acceleration, and long-term success.

Accelerate Math Learning for Colorado Students
Presenter: Lexie Nimick, Zearn
Session 3, Room A, Target Grades K-12
Description: In this session, participants will explore three key strategies for accelerating math learning through the lens of a Grade 5 lesson on division of fractions: (1) introduce new content via friendly on-ramps from connected foundational concepts, (2) ground grade-level learning in visual representations that convey the coherence of math, and (3) give students the targeted support they need, just in time.

Instructional Routines in an Active Learning Classroom
Presenter: Lori Malett, Open Up Resources
Session 3, Room C, Target Grades K-8
Description: The Open Up Resources K-8 Math Instructional routines invite students into grade-level learning, allow a deep dive into content, and provide opportunities to amplify discourse. Come learn and experience these routines and reflect on ways to maximize your time with students and engage them in learning more actively.

Let Them Struggle: Fostering a Classroom Rich in Discourse
Presenter: Rob Nickerson and Paulina Bak, Origo

Description: Gain a deeper understanding of a classroom rich in discourse and struggle through the use of tasks that promote reasoning and problem solving. Instructional strategies of questioning, metacognition, and self-reflection will be explored. Let students struggle and be intentional with your instructional strategies.
