Taking Action Book Study: Chapter 3 (Cohort A)

Taking Action Chapter 3 promo imageChapter 3: Math educators strive to engage students in problem solving with high-quality tasks. November’s CCTM Taking Action book study unpacks how to implement tasks that promote reasoning and problem solving. We will discuss criteria and guidelines for selecting an appropriate task as well as the key components for effective implementation. Make connections to the other Mathematics Teaching Practices (NCTM’s Principles to Actions, 2014) and support equitable learning opportunities for you students by joining us for the November session.

The objectives of the Taking Action book study are:

  • To increase teacher's understanding of the key features of the eight effective mathematics teaching practices
  • To examine how the teaching practices interact as a framework for equitable mathematics instruction
  • To recognize how the teaching practices support deeper learning of mathematics
  • To provide a variety of actives, strategies, and resources to assist teachers in applying the ideas discussed in the book to their own practices.
