Antelope Trails Elementary School, District 20

This month CCTM would like to highlight a fantastic educator, Jenn Walton.  Her colleagues at Antelope Trails Elementary School in District 20 say Jenn teaches math in a way that is engaging, challenging, and fun for her kindergarteners. She is dedicated to meeting the needs of all her students. Her students yearly show amazing growth in testing scores. She is one of the best math educators in her building.

Jenn has been teaching math to kindergarten students for six years.  She explains what inspires her as a math educator and her ‘why’:

“My why is this, math can be overwhelming for students.  If I can somehow find a way to make math engaging and help kids see that math is all over their world and serves a purpose, then I will do what I can to help them see math through a different lens.”

Jenn has two children in high school sports and other high school activities.  She says, “They are my world.”  When not busy with her children’s activities, her and her family like to travel and spend time with friends, and do things they don’t get time to do often.

“I just love kids.  Many people say you deserve a medal for working with kindergarteners.  They are my heart.  Yes, they are a lot of work but they bring so much joy and in an instant can turn any day into a blessing.  When I see that lightbulb of learning go on, I know that I am in the right place.  It isn’t always easy and it isn’t always fun, but it is always worth it.”
