Chapter 1: Our September CCTM *Taking Action *book
study kicks off with a vision of students as mathematics learners and doers
and teachers as facilitators of student learning. We will review the Stand
ards for Mathematical Practice (Common Core State Standards, 2010), the eig
ht Mathematics Teaching Practices (NCTM’s *Principles to Actions*, 2
014), and the five Equity-Based Mathematics Teaching Practices (Aguirre, Ma
yfield-Ingram, and Martin, 2013). Join us to set your own goals for ambitio
us teaching this year.

The objectives of the Taking Action book study are:

- To increase teacher's understanding of the key features of the eight effective mathematics teaching practices
- To examine how
the teaching practices
*interact*as a framework for*equitable m athematics instruction* - To recognize how the teaching practices
support
*deeper learning of mathematics* - To provide a varie
ty of actives, strategies, and resources to assist teachers in
*applying*the ideas discussed in the book to their own practices.
