Taking Action Book Study: Chapter 1 (Cohort C)

Taking Action Chapter 1 promo graphicChapter 1: Our September CCTM Taking Action book study kicks off with a vision of students as mathematics learners and doers and teachers as facilitators of student learning. We will review the Standards for Mathematical Practice (Common Core State Standards, 2010), the eight Mathematics Teaching Practices (NCTM’s Principles to Actions, 2014), and the five Equity-Based Mathematics Teaching Practices (Aguirre, Mayfield-Ingram, and Martin, 2013). Join us to set your own goals for ambitious teaching this year.

The objectives of the Taking Action book study are:

  • To increase teacher's understanding of the key features of the eight effective mathematics teaching practices
  • To examine how the teaching practices interact as a framework for equitable mathematics instruction
  • To recognize how the teaching practices support deeper learning of mathematics
  • To provide a variety of actives, strategies, and resources to assist teachers in applying the ideas discussed in the book to their own practices.
